Following the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 29, KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan delighted fans with a spontaneous gesture towards DC director of cricket Sourav Ganguly. Approaching Sourav Ganguly from behind, Shah Rukh Khan embraced him in a bear hug, capturing a heartwarming moment at Eden Gardens.
The reunion between Sourav Ganguly and Shah Rukh Khan, longtime associates in IPL history, resonated deeply with fans. Sourav Ganguly, fondly known as the ‘Prince of Calcutta,’ served as the iconic player for KKR during the tournament’s inaugural edition. Despite a brief stint, Sourav Ganguly’s relationship with KKR soured due to performance issues, leading to his departure.
However, Sourav Ganguly’s subsequent roles in cricket administration, notably as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal and later the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), fostered renewed camaraderie with KKR. Presently, as the head of cricketing development at DC, Sourav Ganguly continues to command immense respect, evident from the enthusiastic reception he received at Eden Gardens.
In the match itself, KKR emerged victorious over DC, securing a commanding seven-wicket win. The team’s recovery from a previous defeat showcased their resilience, while batsman Phil Salt’s stellar performance propelled them to victory. Salt’s explosive half-century, coupled with Sunil Narine’s contributions, underscored KKR’s dominance in the game.
With this win, KKR strengthens its position in the top four, inching closer to securing a playoff berth. Meanwhile, DC faces mounting pressure to secure vital victories in their remaining matches to stay competitive in the IPL 2024 tournament.
