India captain Rohit Sharma was in a jovial mood during the press conference ahead of the semi-final clash against England, making a playful remark about Australia’s absence from the T20 World Cup. When asked about the biggest takeaway from the tournament, Rohit humorously noted, “No more Australia in the competition.”
Rohit’s performance was instrumental in knocking Australia out of the tournament. He scored a blistering 92 off 41 balls in the Super 8 clash, setting a target of 206 runs which Australia failed to chase despite Travis Head’s efforts. Australia’s subsequent loss to Afghanistan ensured their early exit.
Rohit’s True Takeaway
Rohit later gave a more serious response, praising Australia as a formidable team. He highlighted the confidence India displayed in all aspects of the game against Australia as the key takeaway.
“A big takeaway for us was the confidence we played with in all departments. The bowlers executed their plans, and the batters did their job. Winning against a top team like Australia, with everything falling into place, can give you immense confidence,” Rohit said.
Personal Satisfaction
Rohit expressed personal satisfaction with his performance, emphasizing the importance of putting pressure on the bowlers. “For me, personally, I wanted to try and do something I’ve been aiming for years, which is to put pressure on the bowlers. Achieving that was very satisfying,” he added.
India will face England in the second semi-final on June 27 in Guyana. Rohit’s confident remarks and the team’s performance thus far set a promising tone for the upcoming match.
