Retired IAS officer Arun Bhatia has called for the transfer of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar following the recent Porsche car crash incident. In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Maharashtra Human Rights Commission (MHRC), Arun Bhatia emphasized the need to investigate Amitesh Kumar’s conduct, alleging that he has shielded the crime and his corrupt officials.
Arun Bhatia also urged the MHRC to probe the appointment of a doctor as Chief Medical Officer based on political recommendations and hold the Health Secretary accountable. Additionally, he demanded a detailed report from the police regarding the sequence of events and reasons for delays in the investigation process, criticizing the current Police Commissioner’s reliability in handling the matter.
Highlighting concerns about transparency and accountability, Arun Bhatia stressed the importance of clean, efficient, and corruption-free crime detection and investigation agencies. He emphasized the role of the HR Commission in enforcing laws that protect citizens’ lives and freedoms, calling for corrective actions when violations occur.
Furthermore, Arun Bhatia directly addressed Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, stating that citizens demand his departure from the city amid ongoing controversies. He urged Amitesh Kumar to take leave to avoid compromising the investigation process, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in law enforcement.
The letter comes amidst growing scrutiny and public outrage over the handling of the Porsche crash case, with Arun Bhatia’s call for action reflecting broader concerns about accountability and integrity within the police force.
