The electoral landscape in Rajasthan came alive as polling commenced on Saturday morning for the 199 assembly seats, setting the stage for a fierce showdown between the incumbent Congress and the opposition BJP. With the BJP making an all-out effort to seize power and the Congress determined to break the state’s anti-incumbency tradition, the political atmosphere is charged with anticipation.
Rajasthan’s Chief Electoral Officer, Praveen Gupta, reported the initiation of polling at 7 am across the state, emphasizing the enormity of the electoral exercise with a staggering 51,507 polling booths catering to the 199 assembly constituencies. Unfortunately, the election in the Karanpur seat of Sriganganagar district was postponed due to the untimely demise of Congress candidate Gurmeet Singh Koonar.
The electoral battleground boasts 5,25,38,105 voters actively participating in shaping the political future of the state. A prominent cast of characters, including Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot (Sardarpura), former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje (Jhalrapatan), former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot (Tonk), state PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra (Lachhmangarh), and RLP convenor Hanuman Beniwal (Khinvsar), are among the 1,862 candidates vying for victory.
Security arrangements are robust, with over 1.70 lakh security personnel deployed across the state. The force includes 70,000 Rajasthan Police personnel, 18,000 Rajasthan Home Guards, 2,000 Rajasthan Border Home Guards, 15,000 Home Guards from other states (Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh), and 120 RAC Companies, ensuring a secure environment for the democratic process.
As the Congress expresses optimism about retaining power, the BJP eyes a triumphant return ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls next year. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) add further dimensions to the electoral narrative, contesting the assembly polls with their unique propositions.
The culmination of this high-stakes political battle will be on December 3, when the results of the polls will be declared, unveiling the verdict of the people of Rajasthan and shaping the political trajectory of the state for the foreseeable future.
