In a recent ruling, the Delhi High Court declared that accusations of conspiring against the Prime Minister constitute treason and cannot be made lightly without substantial evidence.
The court made this assertion during a hearing on a lawsuit filed by BJD MP Pinaki Misra against lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai over allegedly defamatory tweets and statements. These statements included claims that Misra, along with expelled TMC MP Mahua Moitra, conspired against the Prime Minister.
Justice Jasmeet Singh emphasized the gravity of such allegations, stating that labeling someone as conspiring against the Prime Minister has serious repercussions and undermines the state. He urged caution and advocated for waiting for investigations to conclude before making such claims.
The court also noted that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is already examining the allegations, and a dispute between Dehadrai and Moitra is pending before the High Court.
During the hearing, Dehadrai and his counsel assured the court that no further allegations of Misra conspiring against the Prime Minister would be made until the next hearing.
Acknowledging the seriousness of the matter, the court issued notices on the lawsuit to Dehadrai and two media houses. The case is scheduled for further hearing in July.
