  • Emphasises MSMEs, skills for sustainable youth employment solutions.

In a sharp critique of the central government, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the ‘Employment Linked Incentive’ (ELI) scheme, alleging that it is another unfulfilled promise to the youth. Rahul Gandhi questioned the seriousness of the government towards tackling unemployment and accused Narendra Modi of focusing more on corporate allies than real economic reform.

Focus on MSMEs and Skill DevelopmentCriticism of Economic Priorities

Rahul Gandhi said that the prime minister launched the ELI scheme with grand announcements following the 2024 general election, pledging it would generate significant employment opportunities. However, nearly a year later, he claimed, there has been no clarity on the scheme’s implementation or structure. He also alleged that the Rs 10,000 crore allocated to the scheme had been returned unutilised.

Focus on MSMEs and Skill Development

Highlighting his vision for job creation, Rahul Gandhi argued that India’s employment crisis cannot be resolved by prioritising large corporates and assembly-line production. He criticised the government for ignoring micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and for promoting crony capitalism over fair competition.

He stressed that sustainable employment can only be created through investments in MSMEs, encouraging local production ecosystems, and providing youth with the right set of skills. According to him, the neglect of India’s indigenous capabilities is further exacerbating the job crisis.

Criticism of Economic Priorities

Rahul Gandhi also launched a personal attack on the prime minister, alleging that Narendra Modi is more concerned with helping his billionaire allies like Adani than addressing the needs of unemployed youth. He questioned when the PM would shift focus from enriching the wealthy to ensuring that job opportunities are made accessible to people from marginalised and underprivileged communities.

He concluded by asking the prime minister directly: “Where has the Rs 10,000 crore ELI scheme gone? Was it just another slogan? While you create new catchphrases daily, India’s youth are still waiting for real opportunities.”

There was no immediate response from the government regarding the status of the scheme or the allegations made by Rahul Gandhi.
