During a session titled ‘Samvidhan Samman Sammelan’ in Haryana’s Panchkula, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi highlighted disparities in the treatment of Chief Ministers by law enforcement authorities. Drawing attention to the arrests of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Rahul Gandhi emphasized the continued incarceration of Hemant Soren, labeling him as a “tribal Chief Minister.”
Rahul Gandhi underscored the constitutional principle of equal treatment for all citizens and questioned the representation of marginalized communities in positions of power and influence. He lamented the lack of visibility and participation of approximately 90 percent of the population, including Dalits, OBCs, tribal communities, and minorities, in the country’s narrative and governance structures.
Expressing insights from his familial connections to the prime ministerial office, Rahul Gandhi asserted that systemic biases heavily favor dominant castes, hindering the upward mobility of marginalized groups. He criticized the absence of Dalits, tribals, and OBCs in key positions across media, influencing spheres, and management hierarchies.
Hemant Soren’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in January, related to a money laundering case involving an alleged land scam, was contrasted with Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest in March over the Delhi liquor policy case. While Hemant Soren remains in judicial custody without interim relief, Arvind Kejriwal secured interim bail until June 1 from the Supreme Court. Rahul Gandhi’s remarks underscored broader concerns about fairness and inclusivity within the Indian legal and governance frameworks.
