US President Joe Biden landed in Italy late Wednesday to participate in the G7 Summit, joined by leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom, alongside special invitee Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Tomorrow, President Biden is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where both leaders will formally sign a bilateral security agreement aimed at reaffirming long-term US support for Ukraine. Speaking aboard Air Force One, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan highlighted the significance of this agreement, stressing its role in bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities and deterring future aggression.
“The US stands firmly with Ukraine, ensuring our support continues not only now but into the future,” Jake Sullivan affirmed.
The upcoming discussions are expected to revolve around strategic cooperation in defense and security, underlining a shared commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and resilience against external threats, particularly from Russia.
Additionally, President Biden’s agenda at the G7 Summit encompasses addressing global challenges such as Artificial Intelligence, climate change, and supply chain resilience. The summit aims to demonstrate unity among G7 nations and reaffirm partnerships worldwide, including in the Indo-Pacific region.
White House officials anticipate productive dialogues on economic resilience, countering non-market policies, and promoting infrastructure investments through initiatives like the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGI).
A session with His Holiness Pope Francis on AI underscores the summit’s broader agenda of harnessing technological advancements while mitigating associated risks to national security and societal equality.
