Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Poland, officials in the Lodz Governor Dorota Ryl region are expressing their enthusiasm and highlighting the significance of the trip. In an interview with ANI, Lodz Governor Dorota Ryl pointed out that the upcoming visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is of considerable importance to both Poland and the broader region.
Lodz Governor Dorota Ryl noted the presence of successful Indian enterprises in Poland, such as Infosys, which employs over 3,000 people in the region, and highlighted the involvement of more than 200 Indian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in various sectors. “The visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is of great significance to Poland and the region. We see outstanding examples, such as Infosys, which employs over 3,000 people in the region, and more than 200 Indian MSMEs actively engaged in various businesses here,” Lodz Governor Dorota Ryl said.
Deputy Mayor of Lodz Governor Dorota Ryl, Adam Pustelnik, also expressed high hopes for the visit, which will see Prime Minister Narendra Modi meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda. “I’m very, very happy that Prime Minister Modi is coming to our country and that he will engage in dialogue with our key leaders. I think it’s a truly unique moment,” Pustelnik stated. He added that his focus is on exploring how Poland can contribute to strengthening mutual relations and growth.
Amit Lath, Vice President of the Indo-Polish Chamber of Commerce and a Pravasi Bharatiya awardee, described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit as “historic,” noting that it is the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in 45 years. Lath emphasized that the visit represents a crucial opportunity for enhancing collaboration between the two nations. “This is a historic visit, as an Indian Prime Minister is visiting Poland after 45 years. The last visit was by Morarji Desai in 1979. This milestone is an important step forward for India and Poland to build a strong partnership,” Lath said.
Lath highlighted Poland’s role as a growing economic force in Central Europe and noted that India’s burgeoning economic growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership makes the country an attractive partner for various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and the food industry.
The visit, scheduled for August 21-22, marks the first time in over four decades that an Indian Prime Minister will visit Poland. The trip coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. MEA Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal described the visit as a “landmark,” emphasizing its significance in reviewing and enhancing bilateral relations.
Tanmaya Lal also recalled Poland’s historical assistance to India, including support during the evacuation of Indian students from Ukraine in 2022 and refuge provided to Polish women and children in India during World War II. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit will include meetings with Polish leaders, engagement with the Indian community in Poland, and a ceremonial welcome in Warsaw. After Poland, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue his trip to Ukraine.
