Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8 pm on Monday in what is being seen as a key moment following a tense week marked by military confrontations between India and Pakistan. This will be Narendra Modi’s first public address since India launched Operation Sindoor, a major cross-border military campaign targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and other Pakistani regions. The address comes just two days after both nations agreed to halt all forms of military aggression, signaling a possible shift toward de-escalation.

India’s Strikes and Military Objectives

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, was a coordinated military response by India aimed at dismantling at least nine terror facilities operating in PoK and Pakistan. The mission marked a sharp escalation in regional tensions, triggering four days of intense cross-border strikes involving air, land, and naval forces. According to Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, between 35 and 40 Pakistani military personnel were killed during the operation. He also stated that India achieved all its strategic objectives.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri initially briefed the media in the early days of Operation Sindoor, while the Indian military formally took over communication duties on Sunday. On Monday afternoon, another detailed military briefing was held, outlining the scale and precision of India’s operations. PM Narendra Modi’s address tonight is expected to provide a broader perspective on India’s actions and the roadmap ahead.

As diplomatic backchannels worked to ease tensions, India and Pakistan reportedly reached an understanding over the weekend to cease all military actions across land, air, and sea. DGMO Rajiv Ghai is also scheduled to hold his second round of talks with his Pakistani counterpart this evening, continuing the process of military-level communication that began on Saturday.

Amid the heightened security scenario, India ensured smooth functioning of its strategic defense and civilian infrastructure. Three crucial airports—Udhampur, Pathankot, and Bhuj—remained on high operational alert, handling both military and limited civilian air traffic. These airports played a vital role in coordinating rapid deployment and evacuation operations during the period of tension.

All eyes are now on PM Narendra Modi’s 8 pm address, where he is expected to speak on India’s security posture, outline future peace strategies, and reinforce the country’s stance on terrorism and territorial sovereignty.
