Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to the United States, praised the Indian diaspora, calling them India’s strongest brand ambassadors or “Rashtradoots.” PM Narendra Modi’s remarks came as he addressed a large gathering of around 13,000 Indian-Americans at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York, as part of his three-day visit to the country. The event, titled ‘PM Narendra Modi and US’, witnessed the Prime Minister commending the contributions of the Indian community to the country’s global image.
Speaking to the audience, PM Narendra Modi said, “I have always understood the capabilities of the Indian community. I understood it even when I held no official position. For me, all of you have been strong brand ambassadors of India. This is why I call you ‘Rashtradoots’.” He lauded the community’s success and integration into the American fabric, emphasizing that they continue to carry India’s values and spirit wherever they go.
The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s diversity, stating, “We belong to a country where there are dozens of languages and dialogues, all faiths and religions of the world, and yet we are moving forward united.” He further added that India’s strength lies in this unity despite its immense diversity, with the Indian community abroad playing a crucial role in showcasing these values on the global stage.
PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States began on Saturday, September 21, with his arrival in Wilmington, Delaware, President Joe Biden’s hometown, for the Quad summit. PM Narendra Modi and Biden held bilateral talks, discussing ways to enhance India-US relations. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. The Quad Leaders’ Summit saw PM Narendra Modi join Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, along with President Biden, to deliberate on pressing international concerns, including maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region, health, climate change, and the current geopolitical scenario.
This marked the sixth edition of the Quad summit, reflecting the continued cooperation between the four nations in addressing shared global challenges. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to upholding peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region and explored measures to strengthen their collective efforts in various sectors.
PM Narendra Modi’s three-day visit to the US will conclude with an address at the Summit of the Future at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Monday. His participation in this high-profile event underlines India’s growing influence on the global stage, particularly in shaping the discourse around future challenges and opportunities in international relations.
This visit also comes on the heels of a significant political victory for PM Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which won a historic third consecutive term in the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year. The magnitude of the election, and the support PM Narendra Modi continues to garner from both domestic and international audiences, was reflected in the enthusiastic reception he received from the Indian-American community during the event in New York.
