In response to escalating tensions with Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level security meeting on Saturday at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. This gathering comes after Pakistan launched drone attacks on 26 Indian sites for the second consecutive night, targeting areas from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat. The Indian Defence Ministry reported that key assets, including airports and airbases, remained secure despite these attacks.

Escalation Following Pahalgam Attack

The recent surge in hostilities follows the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. India attributes the attack to cross-border terrorism supported by Pakistan. In retaliation, India launched precision strikes on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, targeting nine sites associated with groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. These operations, part of “Operation Sindoor,” aimed to dismantle terrorist infrastructure without causing civilian casualties.

Mutual Accusations and International Concerns

Both nations have accused each other of escalating the conflict. India dismissed Pakistan’s claims of significant damage to Indian military infrastructure as misinformation. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri labeled Pakistan’s actions as “provocative,” emphasizing India’s measured response. Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh highlighted Pakistan’s disinformation efforts, including false reports of hits on critical Indian defense systems. Meanwhile, Pakistan has accused India of initiating the conflict with strikes on its airbases in Rawalpindi, Murid, and Shorkot.

The international community, including the United States, United Kingdom, China, and the G7, has expressed concern over the escalating situation. Diplomatic efforts are underway to de-escalate tensions, with calls for restraint and dialogue from global leaders. Both India and Pakistan have indicated a willingness to de-escalate if the other reciprocates, but mutual distrust remains high.

Airspace Restrictions and Civilian Impact

In light of the ongoing conflict, both countries have implemented airspace restrictions. India has shut down over 30 airports in affected regions, while Pakistan has closed its airspace entirely. These measures have disrupted civilian travel and heightened public anxiety. The situation remains volatile, with both nations maintaining high military readiness amid fears of further escalation.
