Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has vehemently rejected calls for his resignation from opposition leaders BJP and JD(S), criticizing their moral authority to question him. The remarks came in response to the ‘Mysuru Chalo’ march organized by these parties, which demanded his resignation over allegations that his wife, Parvathi, benefited from a land scam involving the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
In a strong rebuttal delivered at the ‘Janandolana’ convention at Maharaja’s College Grounds in Mysuru, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused BJP and JD(S) leaders of having no moral right to demand his resignation. He likened their actions to historical figures attempting to drive out colonial rulers, stating that the current opposition’s attempt to remove him was a matter of opposing communal, casteist, and feudal ideologies. He urged the public to reject such ideologies and reaffirmed his commitment to tackling these challenges.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s speech highlighted the alleged biases and controversies surrounding his opponents. He claimed that previous Congress Chief Ministers Devaraj Urs, S. Bangarappa, and M. Veerappa Moily were forced out of office due to their backgrounds, suggesting a pattern of discrimination against leaders from backward communities. The Chief Minister also criticized former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and his son, H.D. Kumaraswamy, for betraying their promises and collaborating with the BJP to remove him from power.
In his criticism of opposition figures, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah targeted BJP leaders such as B.S. Yediyurappa, accusing him of involvement in numerous scams and questioning his integrity at the age of 82. He also took aim at BJP’s Vijayendra and JD(S)’ Kumaraswamy, highlighting their alleged involvement in various controversies including land scams and mining cases. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah alleged that opposition leaders had engaged in conspiracies to unseat him, emphasizing that these claims were baseless and part of a larger political strategy to undermine his administration.
The Chief Minister also challenged the credibility of T.J. Abraham, who has been accused of blackmail and whose complaints contributed to the MUDA scam allegations against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He described Abraham as an unreliable figure, emphasizing that recent legal developments against him further undermined his credibility.
Support for Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was robust during the convention, with prominent Congress leaders such as Randeep Singh Surjewala, D.K. Shivakumar, and other top officials rallying behind him. D.K. Shivakumar, in particular, criticized the opposition’s attempts to destabilize the government and countered allegations against his party, asserting that the BJP’s efforts would not succeed.
The ongoing political skirmish underscores the deep-seated rivalries and contentious political landscape in Karnataka as the Chief Minister and his allies brace against the opposition’s scrutiny and challenges.
