PM Modi : Congress Has Broken the Country, Gave Kachchativu Island to Sri Lanka in an Inconsiderate Manner

It's worth noting that this news is based on the response received to an RTI (Right to Information) application filed by R. Annamalai, the president of the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit. He had sought information regarding the decision of the then-Indira Gandhi government to hand over this island to the neighboring country Sri Lanka in 1974, as part of the Pak-Jal Sanjhauta (Water Agreement).

  • The Congress party had inconsiderately given away the Kachchativu Island to Sri Lanka.

New Delhi : This morning, news emerged that during the tenure of Indira Gandhi, the Kachchativu Island was given to Sri Lanka. Subsequently, the ruling BJP has launched an attack on the Congress. The BJP hopes that this issue will prove helpful in its efforts to gain momentum in the southern states during the Lok Sabha elections. PM Modi has launched an emotional attack on the country’s oldest party, portraying it as lacking in sensitivity. He stated that new facts reveal how Congress inconsiderately gave away Kachchativu Island to Sri Lanka.

Taking to the social media platform, PM Modi wrote, “A startling and eye-opening piece of news. New facts reveal how Congress callously gave away Kachchativu Island. This has left every Indian outraged, and it is now ingrained in people’s minds that we can never trust Congress.”

It is worth mentioning that this news is based on the response received on the RTI (Right to Information) application of R. Annamalai, the president of the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit. He had sought information regarding the decision of the then-Indira Gandhi government to hand over this island to the neighboring country Sri Lanka in the 1974 Pak-Jal Sanjhauta (Water Agreement).

Prime Minister Modi further wrote, “For 75 years, Congress has pursued a way of working that weakens the unity, integrity, and interests of India.” The news also mentions the comments of the country’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, on the issue, which continues to be the root of controversy between India and Sri Lanka. Nehru allegedly said that he would have no hesitation in relinquishing India’s claim to the island.
