Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described India’s growing relationship with the United States as a “MEGA partnership for prosperity,” linking India’s vision of “Viksit Bharat” with former US President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) slogan. Introducing a new term, PM Modi stated that India is working towards “Make India Great Again” (MIGA), highlighting the shared aspirations of both nations for economic growth and development.
Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi emphasized the significance of the evolving India-US partnership and its potential to drive prosperity. “President Trump often talks about MAGA. In India, we are working towards a Viksit Bharat, which in the American context translates into MIGA. Together, India and the US have a MEGA partnership for prosperity!” he posted.
During his visit to the White House, PM Modi held a crucial meeting with US President Donald Trump, describing it as a major step in strengthening bilateral relations. In a follow-up post, he wrote, “An excellent meeting with POTUS Donald Trump at the White House. Our talks will add momentum to the India-US friendship.”
Speaking at a joint press conference, PM Modi underscored the alignment of priorities between India and the United States. He noted that while Americans are well-acquainted with President Trump’s MAGA slogan, India is striving towards the ambitious goal of Viksit Bharat 2047. He presented this vision in American terms as “MIGA—Make India Great Again,” reinforcing the idea that when the two nations collaborate, MAGA and MIGA together form a “MEGA partnership for prosperity.”
PM Modi also announced a significant target of increasing bilateral trade to USD 500 billion by 2030. He revealed that teams from both countries are actively working on a comprehensive trade agreement that would be mutually beneficial. The two leaders discussed advancing cooperation in joint development, production, and technology transfer, emphasizing their shared commitment to shaping a better global order.
Energy cooperation also emerged as a focal point of discussions, with both sides acknowledging the importance of strengthening their partnership in this sector. PM Modi highlighted the broader impact of India-US collaboration, stating that their joint efforts would not only benefit both nations but also contribute to global stability and progress.
With his visit, PM Modi has become one of the first world leaders to engage with President Trump following his inauguration, further underlining the strategic depth of the India-US relationship and setting the stage for enhanced cooperation in trade, technology, and economic development.
