Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid heartfelt tributes to the 40 CRPF personnel who lost their lives in the Pulwama terror attack, marking the fifth anniversary of the tragic incident that shook the nation. Remembering the sacrifice of the brave soldiers, PM Modi asserted that their valiant service to the country will never be forgotten.
“Homage to the courageous heroes we lost in Pulwama in 2019. The coming generations will never forget their sacrifice and their unwavering dedication to the nation,” the Prime Minister wrote in a post on X, leading the nation in honoring the fallen soldiers.
The attack, which took place on February 14, 2019, was one of the deadliest terror strikes in India’s history. A suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a convoy of CRPF personnel traveling on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, killing 40 soldiers and leaving more than 35 injured. The incident sent shockwaves across the country and intensified India’s resolve against terrorism.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid homage to the martyrs, calling the attack a “cowardly act of terror.” Taking to social media, he reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism with a zero-tolerance policy. “On behalf of the grateful nation, I pay my heartfelt tribute to the soldiers who were martyred in the cowardly terrorist attack in Pulwama on this day in the year 2019. Terrorism is the biggest enemy of the entire human race, and the whole world has united against it. Be it a surgical strike or an air strike, the Modi government is determined to completely destroy the terrorists by running a campaign with a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against them,” Shah wrote.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed deep respect for the fallen CRPF personnel and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to their families. “On this day in 2019, India lost our brave CRPF personnel in a gruesome terrorist attack in Pulwama. Their sacrifice for the nation will never be forgotten. I pay homage to them and offer unwavering support to their families. India stands united in honoring their valor and we remain resolute in our fight against terrorism,” he wrote in a tribute on X.
The Pulwama attack remains one of the darkest days in India’s fight against terrorism, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s collective memory. The loss of these soldiers continues to serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.
