In his inaugural action of his third consecutive term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sanctioned the release of the 17th installment of the PM Kisan Nidhi funds on Monday, underscoring the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare.
The first order signed by PM Modi in his renewed tenure relates to disbursing funds under the PM Kisan Nidhi scheme, aimed at bolstering support for farmers. This latest installment is set to benefit approximately 9.3 crore farmers, with an allocation of around Rs 20,000 crore.
Expressing his government’s steadfast dedication to the well-being of farmers, PM Modi emphasized, “Ours is a government fully committed to Kisan Kalyan (farmer welfare). It is therefore fitting that the first file signed on taking charge is related to farmer welfare. We want to keep working even more for the farmers and the agriculture sector in the times to come.”
This significant decision marks PM Modi’s outreach to farmers after facing protests during his second term over the contentious farm laws, subsequently repealed. Despite this move, some farmers’ unions remain dissatisfied with unmet promises concerning Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Following his swearing-in on Sunday, PM Modi, along with a 72-member Council of Ministers, including 30 Cabinet ministers, commenced his third term at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Despite the BJP falling short of a solo majority in the Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi’s leadership prevails through the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition.
Amidst anticipation, the spotlight now shifts to portfolio allocations, with the new NDA Cabinet expected to convene later today. The inaugural meeting of the Modi 3.0 cabinet is scheduled to convene at the Prime Minister’s Lok Kalyan Marg residence, followed by a gathering of newly inducted ministers at 5 pm.
