In a startling development, 75% of the applications for the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM Kisan Yojana) from a district have been rejected, prompting the Agriculture Department to take stricter measures. The district currently has 8.41 lakh farmers registered with the agriculture department, which includes 6.63 lakh tenant farmers and 1.77 lakh non-tenant farmers. These farmers benefit from various schemes such as subsidies on fertilizers, seeds, and agricultural equipment.
Over 3.17 lakh farmers in the district are already availing benefits under the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, which provides financial assistance to farmers. For the current fiscal year, 17,997 farmers submitted online applications to receive the benefits. However, out of these, only 2,761 applications have been approved at the district level, while a staggering 10,525 applications have been rejected.
At the block level, 1,569 applications were approved, whereas 2,726 were rejected, leaving 416 applications still pending for verification. Most of the rejections were due to incomplete or incorrect land-related details submitted by the applicants.
Block-Wise Application Status
An analysis of block-level data highlights the scale of rejections across the district. In Phulparas, 109 applications were approved while 613 were rejected. Similarly, in Khajauli, 41 were approved and 260 rejected, and in Bisfi, 236 were approved against 449 rejected. Blocks such as Laukaha (141 approved, 469 rejected) and Benipatti (96 approved, 1,319 rejected) reported high rejection rates.
Other blocks such as Andhratharhi (101 approved, 622 rejected), Rahika in Madhubani (99 approved, 756 rejected), and Babubarhi (69 approved, 732 rejected) also faced significant rejection rates. In Jhanjharpur, 244 applications were approved, but 642 were rejected.
Reasons for Rejections
The Agriculture Department identified incomplete or inaccurate land details as the primary reason for the high rejection rate. Applications with missing or incorrect information regarding land ownership or tenancy were disqualified during verification.
The department has urged farmers to provide accurate and complete details while applying to avoid rejection. Meanwhile, the authorities have also tightened the scrutiny process to ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach only eligible farmers.
The large number of rejected applications highlights the need for increased awareness and support for farmers in navigating the application process. The Agriculture Department is expected to ramp up efforts to guide farmers and make the process more transparent and accessible. This move aims to reduce discrepancies and ensure the effective implementation of the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana in the district.
