During a press conference in Washington, Pentagon Press Secretary Pat Ryder underscored India’s importance as a strategic ally for the United States, expressing a commitment to further strengthen bilateral ties.
“India is a strategic partner, and we look forward to continuing to develop that partnership,” Ryder stated, highlighting the significance of India-US relations.
Regarding the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict, Ryder addressed the US stance, emphasizing Ukraine’s sovereignty and the illegitimacy of Russia’s occupation.
“When it comes to Ukraine and Russia’s illegal occupation and invasion of Ukraine, ultimately, it’s up to Ukraine to decide when they are ready to negotiate for peace,” Ryder affirmed. He reiterated the US’s support for Ukraine’s defense efforts, emphasizing the importance of providing necessary resources to protect its territorial integrity.
“Our focus continues to be on working with Ukraine to provide them with what they need to defend their country and defend their sovereignty and take back territory,” Ryder added. He emphasized that any decisions regarding Ukraine’s future must respect Ukraine’s autonomy and sovereignty.
The Pentagon’s recognition of India as a strategic partner underscores ongoing efforts to bolster cooperation in defense and strategic affairs. The relationship between the two nations has seen significant developments in recent years, spanning defense agreements, joint military exercises, and diplomatic engagements aimed at regional stability and security.
As global geopolitical dynamics evolve, the US reaffirms its commitment to supporting allies like India while navigating complex international challenges such as the Ukraine-Russia conflict. The statements from the Pentagon reflect a nuanced approach towards international relations, balancing strategic partnerships with principled stances on global issues.
