During a speech at a NAACP meeting in Las Vegas, US President Joe Biden called for a ban on semi-automatic rifles, specifically mentioning the AR-15 used in the recent attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

“Join me in getting these weapons of war off the streets of America. An AR-15 was used in the shooting of Former President Donald Trump… It’s time to outlaw them,” US President Joe Biden emphasized, addressing the audience.

The statement comes in the wake of a recent incident where a 20-year-old assailant attempted to assassinate Former President Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania. The use of an AR-15 rifle in the attack has reignited the debate over gun control measures in the United States.

US President Joe Biden’s call for a ban on AR-15 rifles reflects his administration’s ongoing efforts to address gun violence and implement stricter firearm regulations. The AR-15, known for its widespread use in both civilian and military contexts, has been a focal point in discussions on gun policy due to its high rate of fire and lethality.

Critics of such bans argue for Second Amendment rights and the right to self-defense, while proponents highlight the need for public safety measures to curb gun-related violence.

The President’s remarks underscore a broader push within the administration to advance legislative measures aimed at reducing gun violence. US President Joe Biden has previously called for comprehensive background checks on all gun sales and a ban on high-capacity magazines.

The debate over gun control in the US remains deeply divisive, with advocates on both sides fiercely advocating for their positions. As US President Joe Biden’s administration continues to push for stricter gun laws, the issue is expected to remain a contentious topic in American politics, with implications for public safety and constitutional rights alike.
