  • India sends strong message with precision strikes on terror camps

In the wake of India’s retaliatory military strikes under Operation Sindoor, former Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General (Retd) DS Hooda has praised the precision of the operation while warning that India must remain alert for potential Pakistani retaliation. The missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) came in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 tourists. Experts and officials say the action sends a direct message to Pakistan that terror infrastructure won’t go unanswered.

Strong Strategic Messaging

Lt Gen Hooda called Operation Sindoor a “powerful message” to Pakistan, noting that India had struck at the very core of terrorist leadership. He emphasized that while the move demonstrated decisive intent, India must stay prepared for any form of escalation. According to Hooda, Pakistan’s response options are limited, and though they may attempt to save face, their economic and political situation remains strained. The Karachi Stock Exchange has plummeted, and agricultural sectors are facing fallout from the suspended Indus Waters Treaty.

Echoing his stance, other defence experts labelled the operation as a “precision strike” meant to neutralize terror hubs with minimal collateral damage. Many experts noted that such a step was expected, especially after mounting public pressure and intelligence pointing to Pakistani-based groups behind the Pahalgam massacre.

Measured Yet Decisive Action

The missile strikes targeted strongholds of major terror outfits including Jaish-e-Mohammad’s base in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Muridke facility. The Indian government stated the goal was not just to punish but also to deter future attacks. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri briefed the media soon after the operation, stating that the action was “measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible.”

Vikram Misri underscored the absence of any “demonstrable” action by Islamabad to curb terror activities either within its territory or in areas under its control, making India’s operation necessary. He added that the intent was to both dismantle terror infrastructure and prevent future strikes.

As tensions remain high, India is maintaining heightened military vigilance, while reaffirming its commitment to responsible counterterrorism measures. Operation Sindoor is being seen not only as retaliation but as a signal of India’s strategic resolve in dealing with cross-border terrorism.
