At least one person was killed and six others injured in a shooting at Maplewood Park in Rochester, New York, on Sunday evening, according to police reports.
Officers responded to the scene around 6:20 p.m. local time following a report of a large gathering where shots had been fired, as reported by Rochester First. Upon arrival, they discovered multiple individuals with gunshot wounds and a large crowd dispersing in panic.
A 20-year-old individual was pronounced dead, and another victim was hospitalized in critical condition. Five others sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Footage of the incident, shared on social media, captures a heavy barrage of gunfire disrupting a large gathering in the park, causing people to flee for cover.
“We are currently trying to determine how many people were involved in the shooting. We are interviewing as many witnesses as possible,” stated Rochester Police Captain Greg Bello during a press briefing.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending family notification. No arrests have been made at this time.
