The Sultanate of Oman and the United States of America (USA) have formalized their commitment to environmental cooperation by signing an Environmental Action Programme. Represented by Oman’s Environment Authority and the US Department of State, the signing ceremony strengthens efforts to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Environmental Fields for the years 2024 to 2027.
The action programme encompasses a comprehensive plan to strengthen environmental laws and regulations, elevate expertise, and implement best practices in environmental protection. Key focus areas include pollution control, conservation of natural resources and wildlife, and sustainable ecosystem management.
“The action programme includes a plan to bolster environmental laws and regulations, advance environmental expertise and practices related to the protection of the environment, controlling pollution, conserving natural resources and wildlife and sustainable ecosystem management,” the Oman Ministry in a statement said.
Further, a pivotal aspect of the programme is its emphasis on addressing climate change challenges through adaptation and mitigation strategies. By encouraging the adoption of integrated environmental management practices and leveraging innovative technologies, Oman and the USA aim to enhance resilience and reduce the impact of climate change on ecosystems and communities.
