Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly, widely recognized for his role in the film “Thuramukham,” found himself embroiled in controversy on September 3 after being named as the sixth accused in a sexual assault complaint. The complaint, filed by a woman, has sparked widespread attention, leading Nivin Pauly to address the media in a press conference the same day, where he vehemently denied the allegations and labeled them a conspiracy.
Nivin Pauly, who is known for his clean image in the film industry, expressed his shock and disbelief at the accusations. He asserted his innocence and claimed that he did not know the woman who had filed the complaint. During the press conference, Nivin Pauly stated, “An FIR has been registered against me. I will fight it legally. I am willing to go to any lengths to prove my innocence as such fake allegations can be made against anyone. I am speaking for all of them. If I don’t, such incidents will continue to happen.”
The actor detailed his initial encounter with the legal system regarding this case, revealing that he was contacted by a police officer approximately a month and a half ago. According to Nivin Pauly, the officer informed him about a similar complaint that had been filed against him by the same woman. “The circle inspector read out the FIR to me over the phone. I explained that I did not know her. At that time, it was termed a fake case. I asked the inspector if I should file a counter complaint for a fake case. The police officer said that I shouldn’t waste my time,” Nivin Pauly recounted.
The incident in question is alleged to have taken place in Dubai in November 2023. Nivin Pauly admitted that he had met one of the individuals named in the FIR, a film producer, at a Dubai mall. This producer had introduced him to another man who was supposed to fund a portion of the film. Nivin Pauly speculated that the woman might have been someone who attended an audition during that time, although he could not recall meeting her directly. He also mentioned the possibility of her taking a selfie with him, as many fans often do.
The case has been registered in Kerala’s Ernakulam district, where Nivin Pauly and five others are named as accused. The complaint has come as a shock to the Malayalam film industry, which has already been reeling from the recent release of the Hema Committee report. The report, made public on August 19, has exposed widespread sexual harassment and casting couch practices within the industry, leading to numerous accusations against prominent figures.
