The National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 has revealed the top law universities in India, with the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, securing the top spot once again. This marks the seventh consecutive year that NLSIU has been recognized as the leading law institution in the country, achieving an impressive score of 83.83.
Following NLSIU, the National Law University (NLU), New Delhi, holds the second position with a score of 77.48. NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, ranks third with a score of 77.05, while The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata, is placed fourth with a score of 76.39.
The rankings also highlight other prominent law universities in the country. Symbiosis Law School, Pune, is ranked fifth, followed by Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, in sixth place. The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, is positioned seventh, and Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, is ranked eighth. Siksha O Anusandhan, Bhubaneswar, and Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, round out the top ten at ninth and tenth positions, respectively.
In the newly introduced categories, 50 State Public Universities have been ranked, with an additional 50 institutions in the 51-100 rank band. Only three institutions have been ranked in both the Open Universities and Skill Universities categories.
The NIRF ranking framework evaluates institutions based on five broad parameters: Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcome (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception (PR). Institutions are ranked according to their total scores across these parameters, offering a detailed assessment of their overall strengths and performance.
