The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has unveiled footage showcasing a professional “protest consultant” who was observed guiding a group of anti-Israel demonstrators as they seized Hamilton Hall at Columbia University overnight Monday.
During a press conference on Tuesday evening, New York City Mayor Eric Adams addressed the involvement of external agitators in the protests. He highlighted concerns about these individuals co-opting what was intended to be a peaceful demonstration, emphasizing the need to prioritize the safety of students and faculty.
According to Mayor Adams, these external actors, who are not affiliated with the university, have a history of inciting chaos and discord. The NYPD, familiar with some of these agitators for years, has noticed an escalation in tactics, believed to be influenced by guidance from these outside forces.
One of the individuals identified in the footage is Lisa Fithian, a 63-year-old professional “protest consultant” with a history of arrests. Fithian, known for her involvement in various protests including those related to climate change and Occupy Wall Street, was seen instructing the anti-Israel agitators during the Columbia University incident.
Reports suggest that Fithian and others involved may be receiving financial support from organizations such as the Soros Open Society Foundation and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. This revelation underscores the significant financial backing behind such protests.
The NYPD anticipates similar incidents occurring at universities across New York City and beyond, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance and preparedness to address these challenges.
