The President of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), Abhijat Sheth, announced that the new date for the NEET-PG 2024 exam will be declared next week. This follows the postponement of the exam, initially scheduled for June 23, due to recent concerns and a review meeting with the Union Health Ministry.
The decision to postpone the exam came amid rising controversy over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exam held on May 5. Abhijat Sheth assured that the integrity of the NEET-PG exam has never been compromised, highlighting seven years of successfully conducted exams. However, recent feedback from the student community led the government to review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols to ensure the examination’s sanctity, safety, and security.
Abhijat Sheth addressed the importance of protecting students from misinformation on social media and fraudsters. The review meeting focused on enhancing processes for computer-based examinations, with directions given to NBEMS and its technical partner, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), to address any shortcomings.
In addition, the Ministry of Education has formed a high-level committee of experts, led by former ISRO chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan. This committee will recommend reforms in the examination process, improve data security protocols, and enhance the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The committee is expected to submit its report within the next two months.
