Afghanistan’s coach, Jonathan Trott, has expressed strong confidence ahead of their T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final against South Africa, stating that his team is not merely there to compete but to win. Afghanistan secured their historic spot in the semi-finals by defeating Bangladesh, marking their first-ever entry into the final four of a major ICC event.
Jonathan Trott acknowledged areas for improvement after Afghanistan’s thrilling win over Bangladesh, particularly in batting efficiency. Despite this, he emphasized a positive mindset going into the semi-finals, citing victories over strong teams like Australia and New Zealand as confidence boosters.
“We’re there to win the semi-final. We’ve seen we’ve beaten some major teams. We’ve won by large margins. We’ve won by tight margins. So that’s going to serve us well going forward to the semi-final,” Jonathan Trott affirmed.
Reflecting on the upcoming clash with South Africa, Jonathan Trott highlighted Afghanistan’s lack of historical baggage in semi-finals, presenting them as a dangerous side with nothing to lose and putting pressure on their opponents.
The semi-final between South Africa and Afghanistan is scheduled for June 27 in Trinidad, promising an intense showdown in the T20 World Cup 2024.
