The 19th edition of the Asian Games witnessed a remarkable display of talent and determination by two Indian athletes on the final night of track and field at the Big Lotus in Hangzhou. Neeraj Chopra, often referred to as the Golden Boy, secured the gold medal in the Men’s Javelin throw finals, while a rising star, Kishore Jena, proudly earned the silver.
Neeraj Chopra showcased his prowess with an incredible throw of 88.88 meters, leaving an indelible mark on the event. In a closely contested competition, Kishore Kumar Jena emerged as a strong contender and ultimately secured the silver medal with a throw of 86.77 meters. Neeraj initially secured a medal with an 84.49-meter throw on his second attempt but later reclaimed the top rank with the massive 88.88-meter throw in his fourth attempt.
This outstanding performance not only earned Neeraj Chopra the gold but also secured his qualification for the Paris Olympics, as the qualifying mark for the 2024 Olympics is set at 85.50 meters. The top 12 athletes from Group A and Group B, who achieve a throw of 83 meters or more, qualify for the final.
Neeraj Chopra’s journey thus far has been nothing short of a dream come true for every athlete. He achieved significant milestones in 2018, clinching both the Commonwealth and Asian titles.
