Hockey India has introduced the National Women’s Hockey League, aiming to provide emerging players with a platform to enhance their skills. The league is structured into two phases, with the inaugural phase scheduled to occur in Ranchi from April 30th to May 9th, 2024.

All matches in the first phase will be held at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium, known for hosting prestigious events like the FIH Olympic Qualifiers and the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy.

The competition’s maiden edition will feature the top-eight state teams from the 14th Hockey India Senior Women’s National Championships. The participating state teams include Hockey Haryana, Hockey Maharashtra, Hockey Jharkhand, Hockey Madhya Pradesh, Hockey Bengal, Hockey Mizoram, Manipur Hockey, and Hockey Association of Odisha.

Hockey India has emphasized that the National Women’s Hockey League will serve as a vital platform for scouting talent for the national team. The league aims to provide selectors with opportunities to identify and nurture talent for future international competitions.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey remarked, “The National Women’s Hockey League marks a significant moment for Indian hockey, especially for our women athletes. This league underscores our steadfast commitment to women’s sports and will accelerate the growth and development of women’s hockey in the country.”

Hockey India Secretary General Shri Bhola Nath Singh echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are excited to launch the National Women’s Hockey League, which represents a significant advancement in our efforts to strengthen women’s hockey regionally and nationally. This league will not only offer a platform for elite competition but also inspire young girls to pursue their hockey aspirations.”

The second phase of the league is scheduled for the following year, with specific dates yet to be announced.
