NCERT is gearing up to introduce a fresh curriculum for Classes 3 and 6, in accordance with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE). Expected to be implemented in the forthcoming academic session of 2024-25, this initiative aims to provide a well-rounded education experience from the foundational stages.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of Class 3 in laying the groundwork for education and Class 6 as the threshold of middle schooling, NCERT has meticulously crafted the new syllabus to ensure a smooth transition for students. Alongside releasing textbooks for these grades, the organization has devised a “bridge program” for Class 6 and provided concise guidelines for Class 3, catering to schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).
Building upon the foundational teaching and learning materials already released based on NCF, NCERT Director Dinesh Saklani has urged CBSE Chairperson to spearhead awareness campaigns among school heads, teachers, and parents. The letter emphasized the necessity of adapting school timetables to accommodate the proposed changes, highlighting the importance of local needs and specific contexts.
The NCERT has advocated for a “holistic” teaching approach, encompassing not only traditional subjects like language, mathematics, science, and social sciences but also emphasizing arts, physical education, well-being, and skill education. The envisioned strategy aims to enrich students’ educational experience, fostering a deeper understanding of diverse disciplines and promoting overall development.
Furthermore, the introduction of new activity books and textbooks based on the revised syllabi will expose students to a broader spectrum of learning, including arts, physical education, vocational studies, and ‘The World Around Us’ for Class 3. NCERT believes that this comprehensive approach will not only facilitate students’ adaptation to the new curriculum but also foster awareness about contemporary educational perspectives among parents and the broader community.
