New Delhi [India], October 7 (ANI): The 3rd National Workshop of Technology Innovation in Cyber-Physical Systems (TIPS) has shed light on the pivotal role played by the Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) established under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) in driving technology translation and innovation.

Under the NM-ICPS, mission hubs have been established in 25 prominent technical institutions across India, focusing on various critical aspects of cyber-physical systems, including agriculture, energy, water, and transportation, stated the Ministry of Science and Technology press release.

Over a span of four years, these mission hubs have not only made significant advancements in technologies and product development but have also contributed to high-impact scientific publications, as stated by Professor Abhay Karandikar, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DST).

Professor Karandikar urged technologists associated with these hubs to prioritize the translation of technology into practical applications, emphasizing the importance of self-reliance in critical areas, read the release.

Dr Akhilesh Gupta, Senior Adviser at DST and Secretary of the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) stressed the need for increased collaboration between the hubs and alignment with other ministries and departments. He emphasized the promotion and establishment of startups as a focal point.

The 3rd National Workshop on Technology Innovation in Cyber-Physical Systems (TIPS) was hosted by C3iHub, a cybersecurity Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK). The workshop was organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, under the NM-ICPS, read the press release.

Professor S Ganesh, Officiating Director of IIT Kanpur, highlighted C3i Hub’s two-pronged approach, which involves training students to become cybersecurity professionals and providing hands-on training to utility executives to raise awareness of cybersecurity threats and prevention measures.

C3iHub, one of the 25 TIHs, is India’s first Cyber Security Centre dedicated to developing solutions for safeguarding critical infrastructure such as water and sewage systems, power grids, nuclear plants, rockets, and missile control, according to Professor Manindra Agarwal, Project Director of C3iHub, IIT Kanpur, read the release.

Dr Ekta Kapoor, Mission Director of NM-ICPS and Head of the FFT Division at DST, highlighted the mission’s success in positioning India as a leading player in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) technologies.

She also noted the mission’s achievements in translating CPS technologies for societal and commercial use, nurturing startups, creating job opportunities, and producing the next generation of technocrats in CPS technologies.

The National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), launched in December 2018, aims to address the evolving technological needs of society by fostering advanced technologies and international collaborations, read the release.

It focuses on technology development, human resource development, entrepreneurship, and international collaborative research through 25 Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) established in reputed institutes across India.

The workshops conducted under the mission serve as a vital platform for direct interaction between the Mission Office, its Expert Committee members, and the TIHs, facilitating the effective implementation of the mission’s objectives. (ANI)
