In the aftermath of a high-profile accident involving the son of Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, crucial CCTV footage from a bar visited by the accused has gone missing. The incident, which occurred early Monday morning in Nagpur, has sparked controversy and drawn attention due to the involvement of political figures.
Sanket Bawankule, the son of BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule, was reportedly in an Audi driven by his friend Arjun Hawre when the vehicle collided with several other cars in Ramdaspeth. The crash resulted in injuries to two individuals riding a moped. Following the collision, the occupants of a Polo car that was hit chased down the Audi and apprehended Hawre and another individual, Ronit Chittwamwar, before handing them over to the police.
The missing CCTV footage is from La Horee Bar, where Bawankule and his friends were believed to have been before the crash. The Digital Video Recorder (DVR) from the bar has been seized by the police, but it appears that the footage from the critical period is missing. A police official stated that the DVR was taken for forensic analysis, but the bar’s manager initially refused to cooperate, only to comply after being threatened with legal action. Despite this, police discovered that no footage was available from Sunday night onward.
Sanket Bawankule, although present in the vehicle, was not driving at the time of the accident. He and his friends had reportedly consumed liquor and food at the bar before the incident. The missing footage raises concerns about transparency and accountability in the investigation, particularly given the high-profile nature of those involved.
Police have indicated that further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the missing footage and to assess any potential impact on the ongoing case. The incident has stirred significant local and political interest, with scrutiny increasing as the investigation progresses.
