In Mumbai’s Goregaon, tensions escalated after a Bajaj Finance employee allegedly abused and threatened a Marathi-speaking customer who had fully repaid his loan. The incident triggered a forceful response from Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers, who staged an intense protest at the company’s office. They accused the employee of insulting both the customer and MNS chief Raj Thackeray, leading to vandalism, disruption of operations, and demands for disciplinary action.
A group led by MNS Goregaon Assembly chief Virendra Jadhav gathered at the Bajaj Finance branch, demanding accountability. Protesters blocked office operations and demanded justice for their fellow Marathi speaker. During the confrontation, Bajaj Finance employees were accused of hurling further insults, this time targeting Raj Thackeray himself—escalating the conflict into a heated confrontation.
Verbal Assault Ignites MNS Protest
According to eyewitnesses, the Marathi customer approached the office to complete loan repayment. Despite this, the staff member reportedly used abusive language, threatened the man, and directed derogatory remarks at Raj Thackeray when MNS supporters arrived. This sparked outrage among local party workers, who converged on the spot well-prepared.
A video captured the protest scenes at the office, showing placards, crowd movement, and shouting slogans. Despite the intensity of the disruption, no arrests or formal police actions have been confirmed so far.
Virendra Jadhav announced that the MNS protest will continue until Bajaj Finance takes appropriate disciplinary measures against the staff involved. Protesters demanded an official apology, penalization of the employee, and assurances that such behavior won’t recur.
Wider Social Sensitivity Over Marathi Language Use
This incident reflects growing sensitivity around the rights and dignity of Marathi-speaking citizens in Maharashtra. Just weeks prior, a separate incident in Vashi saw a student being assaulted for requesting someone speak in Marathi, leading to legal action against the perpetrators under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Such events underscore an ongoing tension over linguistic identity and respect, especially in public and commercial spheres. Community leaders and activists continue to emphasize the importance of protecting regional linguistic pride and ensuring respectful interactions in all service contexts.
