Mihir Shah, the prime accused in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run incident, reportedly called his girlfriend 40 times after crashing his luxury car into a 45-year-old woman in Worli on July 7. Following the incident, Mihir Shah travelled across Maharashtra and hid in various resorts to evade the police.
After learning about the accident, Mihir Shah’s girlfriend contacted his sister, Pooja, who picked him up from Goregaon and took him to their Borivali residence. From there, Mihir Shah, three family members, and his friend Avdeep traveled to a resort in Thane in two cars. They later moved to another resort in Murbad.
On Monday, the group headed to Shahapur. Later that evening, Mihir Shah and Avdeep left for a resort in Virar, while the others remained in Shahapur. The police finally arrested Shah on Tuesday after a nearly 72-hour manhunt, when Avdeep switched on his phone for 15 minutes, allowing the police to track their location to Virar.
During his evasion, Mihir Shah had visited Nashik, Igatpuri, Ganeshpuri, and Thane.
Police Investigation and Confession
Mumbai police questioned Mihir Shah and BMW driver Rajrishi Bidawat, who was also involved in the incident. The police recreated the crime scene from CJ House Worli to Sea Link Worli in the presence of the accused.
Mihir Shah confessed to the crime and expressed remorse. While absconding, Mihir Shah had hidden his mobile phone, which the police are now searching for. Additionally, the police are looking to recover the BMW’s number plate. So far, 12 mobile phones have been recovered from Shah’s friends and family members.
Mihir Shah, the son of Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) leader Rajesh Shah, admitted to driving the car at the time of the accident but claimed he was not drunk. The accident resulted in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa, who was riding pillion on a two-wheeler, while her husband Pradeep survived with injuries.
Mihir Shah has been remanded to police custody for seven days until July 16.
