A massive manhunt is underway in Jammu & Kashmir’s Doda district after a man went missing on Tuesday with an AK-47 rifle belonging to a police officer. Authorities are investigating potential terror angles in the case, which has heightened concerns amid a recent surge in terror-related incidents in the region.
The incident has prompted security forces to intensify their efforts, already on high alert due to ongoing terrorist activities. In connection with the movement of terrorists involved in recent attacks in Doda, security personnel detained three individuals, including a couple, for questioning on Tuesday.
Authorities suspect that a group of three to four terrorists is operating in the higher reaches of the district. This suspicion follows an attack on June 11, when five soldiers from the Rashtriya Rifles and a special police officer (SPO) were injured at a joint check post in Chattergalla on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot road.
Further complicating the situation, a police officer was injured on Wednesday evening when terrorists opened fire on a search party in the Kota Top village in the Gandoh area of the district.
Security forces have detained three persons from the Jai area of Doda district as part of their ongoing investigation. The authorities continue to search for the missing man and the stolen rifle, intensifying efforts to prevent further escalation of violence in the region.
This latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges faced by Jammu & Kashmir, with security forces working tirelessly to maintain stability and protect the populace amidst the threat of terrorism.
