The third phase of voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections commenced, encompassing 93 constituencies spread across 11 states and Union Territories. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat and BJP strongholds in the Hindi heartland belt of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh are among the regions where elections are underway.
With more than 1,300 candidates, including 120 women, contesting in this pivotal phase, the electoral landscape reflects diverse participation. As of 9 am, a voter turnout of 10.5% was recorded across the aforementioned states and Union Territories.
This phase of voting covers 26 seats in Gujarat, 14 in Karnataka, 11 in Maharashtra, 10 in Uttar Pradesh, 8 in Madhya Pradesh, 7 in Chhattisgarh, 5 in Bihar, 4 in Assam, 4 in West Bengal, 2 in Goa, and 2 in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
The Lok Sabha elections, spanning seven phases from April 19 to June 1, mark a significant democratic exercise in India. The culmination of this electoral process is set for June 4, when the counting of votes will take place.
