The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the schedule for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025. The first session of the exam will be held from January 22 to 30, 2024, for students seeking admission into various undergraduate programs such as BTech, BE, BArch, and BPlanning.
The exam will be conducted in multiple modes to accommodate different courses. Paper 1, for those opting for BE or BTech, will be conducted in the ‘Computer Based Test (CBT)’ mode. Paper 2A, for BArch aspirants, will consist of three parts—Mathematics (Part-I) and Aptitude Test (Part-II) in CBT mode, while the Drawing Test (Part-III) will be conducted in offline (pen and paper) mode. This will be attempted on an A4-sized drawing sheet. Paper 2B, designed for BPlanning candidates, will include Mathematics (Part-I), Aptitude Test (Part-II), and Planning-Based Questions (Part-III) in the CBT mode.
Paper 1 will cover three key subjects: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Each subject will have two sections. Section A will feature Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs), while Section B will include questions where candidates must enter numerical answers. Both sections will carry negative marking for incorrect answers. The exam is designed to test students’ problem-solving skills and knowledge in these fundamental subjects, which are essential for a career in engineering.
For Paper 2A (BArch), students will face questions on Mathematics (Part-I) and Aptitude (Part-II) in the CBT format, while the Drawing Test (Part-III) will require candidates to sketch on an A4-sized drawing sheet. This paper will feature a mix of MCQs and questions requiring numerical answers, with negative marking applicable for Sections A and B. The Drawing Test, however, will not have negative marking.
Paper 2B (BPlanning) will similarly be divided into three parts: Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Planning, all in CBT mode. The exam will include MCQs and numerical-answer questions. As with the other papers, negative marking will apply to Sections A and B, but the Drawing Test will not carry negative marks. Students will be required to use a virtual numeric keypad to enter answers in the designated field on-screen.
In terms of scoring, candidates will receive four marks for every correct or most appropriate answer. Incorrect responses will lead to a penalty of -1 mark. Unanswered questions or those marked for review will score zero. If more than one answer is correct, four marks will be awarded to those who select any correct option. If all options are found to be correct, then all students who attempted the question will be awarded four marks.
These guidelines are crucial for all candidates appearing for JEE Main 2025, as they will guide the exam pattern, marking scheme, and the necessary steps to ensure smooth participation. The NTA has emphasized that in the event of discrepancies during the key verification process, the agency will address the issues accordingly.
As the exam date approaches, students are advised to familiarize themselves with the new changes and strategies for the exam to maximize their chances of success.
