A youth delegation from Bangladesh met with the President Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 27, 2024. In her address to the delegation, President Murmu expressed her delight in interacting with a group of young and talented individuals from Bangladesh, emphasizing their role as ambassadors of goodwill between the two nations.
President Murmu underscored the inclusive nature of the delegation, comprising representatives from various regions of Bangladesh, with over 50 percent women participants from diverse backgrounds. She emphasized that their visit symbolizes not just a mere exchange but the forging of a bridge between India and Bangladesh, reflecting the enduring spirit of cooperation and friendship that characterizes the bilateral relationship.
Highlighting the deep-rooted ties between India and Bangladesh, President Murmu reiterated India’s pride in supporting Bangladesh during its Liberation War and continuing to share its development journey. She emphasized the need to preserve and nurture this special bond, which is rooted in shared history, culture, and sacrifices.
Describing the relationship between the two countries as one of the heart and soul, President Murmu emphasized the common cultural heritage shared by India and Bangladesh, including a love for art, music, cricket, and cuisine. She pointed out the shared literary legacy, with national anthems penned by Rabindranath Tagore and a mutual appreciation for figures like Kazi Nazrul Islam.
President Murmu reaffirmed India’s commitment to its friendship with Bangladesh, emphasizing that it remains a top priority. She highlighted the importance of the large and dynamic youth populations in both countries, urging them to harness their potential for shaping a sustainable and peaceful world.
Encouraging the members of the youth delegation to immerse themselves in India’s diverse cultural and technological landscape, President Murmu emphasized the significance of strengthening bonds of peace, prosperity, and friendship between India and Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Youth Delegation program, initiated in 2012 by the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, aims to foster goodwill and understanding between the youth of both countries. It serves as a platform for promoting exchange of ideas, values, and cultural understanding, further enhancing the close ties between India and Bangladesh.
