In the wake of a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, U.S. Vice President JD Vance has urged India to respond with restraint while calling on Pakistan to assist in tracking down the perpetrators. Speaking during his visit to India, JD Vance expressed condolences, condemned the violence, and stressed the need to avoid escalating tensions in the region.
The terror attack, which left 26 people dead, occurred while JD Vance and his family were on a four-day visit to India. During an interview on Fox News’s Special Report with Bret Baier, JD Vance addressed the situation, highlighting the global implications of such violence and the urgent need for cooperation between India and Pakistan.
“Our hope here is that India responds to this terrorist attack in a way that doesn’t lead to a broader regional conflict,” JD Vance said. He further added, “And we hope, frankly, that Pakistan, to the extent that they’re responsible, cooperates with India to make sure that the terrorists sometimes operating in their territory are hunted down and dealt with.”
Solidarity With India Amid Crisis
JD Vance previously condemned the attack on X (formerly Twitter), offering sympathies on behalf of himself and his wife. “Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India,” he wrote. “Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack.”
JD Vance’s comments have been seen as an attempt to maintain stability while firmly standing by India in its time of grief.
Donald Trump Voices Support for India
Former U.S. President Donald Trump also responded to the incident through his social platform, Truth Social. “The United States stands strong with India against terrorism,” he wrote. “We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies.”
Donald Trump also personally called Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express his condolences and assured him of the United States’ unwavering support in combating terrorism and securing justice for the victims.
