BCCI secretary Jay Shah has extended a helping hand to the stranded Indian media personnel in Barbados amidst the looming threat of Hurricane Beryl. With airports shut down due to adverse weather conditions, the Indian cricket team, along with several media members, found themselves stranded in the island nation.
India Today’s Vikrant Gupta reported that Jay Shah orchestrated a special initiative to rescue the 20-odd Indian media contingent by offering them seats on the chartered flight returning with the Indian team from Barbados to Delhi. Gupta expressed gratitude on Twitter, acknowledging Jay Shah’s swift action in ensuring the safe return of the media personnel.
The special chartered flight is scheduled to depart from Barbados and is expected to land in Delhi around 4-5 am on Thursday morning. Upon arrival, the media contingent, along with the victorious Indian cricket team, is anticipated to be greeted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and enthusiastic fans eager to celebrate their triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024.
India clinched the T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. Opting to bat first, India posted a competitive total of 176/7 in their allotted 20 overs, with Virat Kohli leading the charge with a crucial innings of 76 runs off 59 balls. In response, South Africa fell short, managing 169/8, as Hardik Pandya’s stellar bowling performance (3/20) ensured victory for India.
This victory marked India’s second T20 World Cup triumph, bridging a gap of 17 years since their inaugural win in 2007 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. It also ended India’s 11-year drought of ICC trophies, following their last major title in 2013 during the Champions Trophy in England, also under Dhoni’s leadership.
The nation eagerly awaits the return of the World Champions, ready to honor the team for their remarkable achievement on the global stage.
