Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air could feature a surprising upgrade, aligning itself with the iPhone 17 Pro in a way that was previously unexpected. While the iPhone 17 Air is said to be the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever produced, a new leak reveals that it may also boast the same 12GB of RAM expected on the Pro models. This move would be a departure from Apple’s typical practice of reserving higher RAM for the Pro Max variants. If accurate, this could make the iPhone 17 Air offer a more flagship-like experience than anticipated.
12GB RAM for iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro
According to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is likely to equip both the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro with 12GB of RAM, a configuration that was initially reserved for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Kuo suggests that Apple changed its plans due to increasing demands for AI features and multitasking capabilities, which require greater memory. While the standard iPhone 17 may still come with 8GB of RAM, it seems likely that both the iPhone 17 Air and 17 Pro will benefit from the boost. Final decisions are expected by next month, with the possibility that the iPhone 17 will follow suit, depending on supply availability.
iPhone 17 Air’s Ultra-Thin Design and Features
Aside from the RAM upgrade, the iPhone 17 Air is set to impress with its ultra-slim profile, measuring just 5.5mm thick, which would make it Apple’s slimmest phone yet, surpassing the iPhone 6. Despite its thin form factor, rumors suggest it will feature a 6.6-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, along with support for Visual Intelligence features. The device is also expected to pack a 6-core A19 chip, up to 512GB of storage, and a 48-megapixel rear camera borrowed from the iPhone 16 Pro. Additional features may include a 24-megapixel front camera, an Action Button, Camera Control Button, and IP68 water resistance. With these upgrades, the iPhone 17 Air is shaping up to be an impressive device that could challenge the typical expectations of an “Air” model.
