Nagpur, 14 Sep: An international-level synthetic track is ready to open at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University on September 17 in a dedicated ceremony. The event will be presided over by RTMNU Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be present as the chief guest, with Pro-VC Dr. Sanjay Dudhe as the guest of honor.
A Level-2 Achievement
This track has received a Level-2 ranking for hosting international events. To commemorate the track’s inauguration, athletes have been invited to participate in a 4 X 100 relay race.
The Journey to Perfection
The work on the track was started in July 2021, when Union Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation. The track is prepared under the guidance of Malaysian experts Meh Hui Pu, Lo Yan Herg and Chiyang Mun Chun. The track layers of polyurethane liquid, granular rubber, and EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) red rubber, are installed by Mumbai’s Sports Facilities experts and markings on the track is done under the supervision of Latvian experts. The work got completed in late April, and the track was ready by May. Additional amenities, including CCTV surveillance, spectator gallery, and other facilities have also been installed.
Dr. Sharad Suryavanshi, the Director of the university’s Sports and Physical Education department, along with Dr. Dhananjay Welukar, Baktis D’Suza of the Athletic Federation, Alpana Patne, the Executive Editor of PWD, Atul Gote, Deputy Engineer, Varsha Ghushe, Executive Engineer, Pravin Morey, Akash Pagare, Junior Engineer, Pallavi Giri, University’s Engineer, Nitin Vishvabhar, Deputy Engineer, and former Engineer Sheshrao Tajne, have all made significant contributions to the track’s preparation.
Versatility of the Sport Arena
This synthetic track boasts eight lanes and spans a length of 400 meters. In addition to serving as a world-class venue for sprinters, the sports arena is equipped to facilitate various other sporting events such as javelin throw, shot put, hammer throw, long jump, triple jump, and steeplechase. A proper drainage system is laid to prevent water accumulation on the track. Furthermore, protective fencing is installed to deter unauthorized access to the sporting area, enabling night-time events to be held with ease.
The university has beautified the sports arena by planting trees in the surrounding area. At the heart of the stadium, a football ground is maintained, complete with sprinkler systems. The facility has the capability to capture photo-finish moments, ensuring accurate event recording.
