A soldier was injured on Tuesday during an exchange of fire as troops foiled an infiltration attempt by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Battal sector. The encounter occurred during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, with counter operations currently underway, according to the Military’s White Knight Corps.
The incident took place in the Poonch district’s Battal sector. The Military unit tweeted, “Alert troops foiled an infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating terrorists with effective fire in the Battal sector at 0300h. During the exchange of heavy fire, one braveheart has been injured. Operations are continuing.”
In a related incident, early on Monday, one soldier and a civilian were injured as security forces averted twin terror attacks on an Army post and the house of a Village Defence Group (VDG) member in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. Officials reported that a joint team of the Army, police, CRPF, and VDGs cordoned off the area following intermittent exchanges of fire with terrorists throughout the day.
According to sources, the Army camp attacked by three Pakistani terrorists was located near the residence of a VDG member recently awarded the Shaurya Chakra for his role in an anti-terror operation in the same area in 2023. The terrorists initially opened fire on the VDG member’s house in the Gundha area of Khawas tehsil, lobbing grenades when security personnel responded. Around 4 am, the terrorists attacked a newly established Army post in the region, triggering a fresh exchange of fire. The wounded soldier and civilian were hospitalized, and a terrorist was reportedly killed, though the body was yet to be recovered.
On July 19, security forces thwarted an infiltration bid at the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Keran sector, killing two terrorists. Two soldiers were injured in another encounter with terrorists in the Kastigarh area of Doda district.
The Rajouri attack on Monday marked the 14th terror attack in the Jammu region this year. These attacks have resulted in the deaths of 10 security personnel and nine pilgrims, with 58 others injured. Security forces have neutralized five terrorists in these encounters.
The ongoing operations in the Battal sector and other recent encounters underscore the persistent security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces continue to remain vigilant, aiming to prevent further infiltration attempts and protect the region’s stability.
