A Hindu temple in Edmonton, Canada, was vandalised with graffiti painted on its walls, sparking condemnation from the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Canada. The incident, which targeted the BAPS Mandir, has been described as an act of Hinduphobic vandalism.
In a statement posted on X, the VHP Canada expressed strong disapproval of the act, calling for a decisive response from the Canadian government. “VHP Canada strongly denounces Hinduphobic graffiti & vandalism at BAPS Mandir in Edmonton,” the organisation stated. They further urged all levels of government in Canada to take firm action against the growing extremist ideology that fosters hatred against the Hindu community.
This vandalism is part of a troubling pattern of attacks on Hindu temples in recent times, linked to Khalistani separatist groups. The surge in anti-India activities by Khalistan supporters has been noted, particularly following the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Such incidents reflect a broader trend of rising extremism and violence, which has been impacting various communities.
The vandalism of the Edmonton temple underscores the need for heightened vigilance and stronger measures to counteract extremist ideologies and protect places of worship and community spaces. The Canadian government and local authorities are under pressure to address these acts of hate and ensure the safety and security of all communities within the country.
