As the 2024 Paris Olympics draw near, Indian shuttlers are intensifying their efforts to secure a coveted spot in the prestigious sporting event. This edition marks a significant milestone as India is set to send two men’s singles shuttlers to the Olympics for the first time since Athens 2004.
With the Badminton Qualification window scheduled to close on April 28, the final leg of badminton competitions and rankings assume heightened significance.
The competition for Olympic qualification is fierce, with players battling it out for their spots. The official qualification list is slated to be unveiled on April 30.
Qualification hinges on the “Race to Paris Olympics 2024 Rankings,” which consider results from the first 10 events. Athletes ranking within the top 16 automatically secure a berth. In cases where more than two athletes from the same National Olympic Committee (NOC) are within the top 16, the NOC determines the final selection.
Similarly, in doubles competitions, a maximum of two pairs can qualify if they rank within the top eight of the ‘Race to Paris rankings list.’
It’s worth noting that PV Sindhu (13), HS Prannoy (9), Lakshya Sen (12), and the duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty (2) have secured their places for Paris.
