The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) has given the green light to a proposal for Indian boxers bound for the Paris Olympics to undergo training in Turkey. In its 129th meeting, the MOC sanctioned the initiative aimed at enhancing the preparation of Olympic-bound athletes.
Among the boxers approved for the training camp in Turkey are Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar, Praveen Hooda, and Lovlina Borgohain. These athletes will benefit from financial assistance provided by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) funding. Additionally, they will be accompanied by two coaches and a physiotherapist to optimize their training regimen.
In a separate decision, the MOC also greenlit foreign training camps for five wrestlers under the TOPS program. Sujeet (65kg), Deepak Punia (86kg), and Naveen (74kg) are among the wrestlers set to travel to Russia with their sparring partners, coaches, and physiotherapists. The intensive training sessions are geared towards preparing these wrestlers for the upcoming Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament scheduled for April.
These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to providing comprehensive support to Indian athletes as they strive for excellence on the global stage. By facilitating foreign training opportunities, the Ministry aims to equip athletes with the necessary skills and preparation to compete at the highest level in international sporting events like the Olympics.
