Indian-origin astronaut Captain Sunita Williams is set to embark on another milestone journey into space. Scheduled for liftoff from the Kennedy Space Center on May 7, 2024, at 8:04 am India time, Williams will be flying aboard the Boeing Starliner spacecraft, marking the first woman to fly on a maiden mission of a new human-rated spacecraft.

Sunita Williams, known for her love of samosas in space, expressed a mix of nerves and excitement about flying in the new spacecraft. Having flown twice to space in 2006 and 2012, Sunita Williams has accumulated a total of 322 days in space, making her a veteran astronaut with an impressive record. Everything related to cosmos and astronomy is exciting.

In today’s world many are curious to explore the cosmos but are not able to find the right platform or guidance to do it. Born to Dr. Deepak Pandya and Bonnie Pandya, Sunita Williams will pilot the Crew Flight Test mission aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, her third mission aboard the International Space Station. A qualified navy test pilot, Sunita Williams has been selected as an astronaut in 1998 and has been involved in NASA’s commercial crew program since the retirement of the Space Shuttle in 2015.

Before her flight, Sunita Williams expressed her spiritual connection by carrying a statue of Lord Ganesh, her good luck charm, and copies of the Bhagavad Gita to space. She is set to create history by being part of the maiden flight of the Boeing Starliner craft.

Sunita Williams will be flying alongside Astronaut Barry Eugene “Butch” Wilmore, launching on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket to the International Space Station. The mission is expected to last about a week, during which Williams and Wilmore will conduct various experiments and activities aboard the orbiting laboratory.

The spacecraft, named “Calypso” by Sunita Williams, has been in development for more than a decade and is designed to accommodate seven passengers for missions to low-Earth orbit. With her involvement in its development, Williams is poised to make history once again as she embarks on this historic space voyage.
