External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has commenced his official visit to Singapore, marking the second leg of his two-nation tour. Dr. Jaishankar’s arrival in Singapore followed his recent four-day official tour of Vietnam, conducted at the invitation of Bui Thanh Son, Vietnam’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Engaging in Key Diplomatic Activities
The visit to Singapore has been marked by crucial diplomatic activities, emphasizing India’s commitment to building stronger relations with its Asian counterparts. On October 19, Dr. Jaishankar chaired the regional conference of Indian Heads of Missions in Singapore. During this conference, discussions focused on assessing regional developments and their potential implications for India.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
On the second day of his Singapore visit, Dr. Jaishankar held pivotal meetings with prominent leaders of Singapore, emphasizing the importance of enhancing bilateral ties. His first engagement was with Singapore’s Trade & Industry Minister, Gan Kim Yong, where the discussions centered around exploring new avenues of cooperation with long-term implications.
Later, in a subsequent meeting, the External Affairs Minister held discussion with Singapore’s Senior Minister, Teo Chee Hean, engaging in comprehensive discussions about the current global landscape and the challenges it presents. The dialogue underscored the shared commitment of both nations to address global issues collaboratively.
Further, continuing his tour, Dr. Jaishankar also met with Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Their deliberations primarily focused on the prospects of the India-Singapore bilateral partnership and its potential for growth.
