Among them was Vijay Kumar Gupta, who travelled 400 kilometres from Rosario to Buenos Aires just to say “hello” and shake the prime minister’s hand, reflecting the deep bond between the Indian diaspora and the leadership back home.

Speaking to ANI, Gupta shared his excitement about meeting PM Modi, saying, “I have come here from Rosario, which is 400 kilometres from here, just to say hello to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I got the opportunity to shake hands with him.” His journey highlighted the emotional connection that many overseas Indians feel with India and its leadership, underscoring the significance of the prime minister’s outreach to the diaspora during his visits abroad.
PM Modi was welcomed with chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai,” “Jai Shree Ram,” and “Modi-Modi” as he arrived at his hotel in Buenos Aires. Members of the Indian diaspora gathered enthusiastically, waving flags and chanting slogans, turning the welcome into a celebration of cultural pride and unity far from home.
A Visit Marking a New Chapter in Ties
Prime Minister Modi’s arrival in Argentina marks the third leg of his five-nation tour, having already visited Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago. His visit to Argentina holds special significance as it is the first bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister to the country in 57 years, marking a new chapter in the India-Argentina relationship.
The prime minister expressed his anticipation for the visit, tweeting, “Landed in Buenos Aires for a bilateral visit which will focus on augmenting relations with Argentina. I’m eager to be meeting President Javier Milei and holding detailed talks with him.” The focus of the visit will be to strengthen bilateral ties, enhance cooperation across sectors, and explore opportunities for collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, also highlighted the importance of the visit, noting, “Celebrating the enduring friendship between our nations. PM Narendra Modi has landed in the vibrant city of Buenos Aires, Argentina on an Official Visit. He was accorded a ceremonial welcome on arrival at the airport.”
Following his visit to Argentina, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Brazil and Namibia, continuing his engagements aimed at strengthening India’s global partnerships and reinforcing India’s commitment to deepening ties with countries across different regions.
The warm welcome received by PM Modi in Buenos Aires reflects not only the enthusiasm of the Indian diaspora but also the growing significance of India’s partnerships in Latin America, signalling a step forward in diplomatic and people-to-people relations between the two nations.
